August be without Queen Anne’s Lace?
I have only skimmed the surface in describing the wild flowers that make driving anywhere a pleasure these days. A pleasure, that is, if one is not in too much of a hurry. There is Bouncing Bet with pale pink flowers. Who was Bouncing Bet? She sound plump, happy and rosy cheeked to me. Bet is as much a mystery as Joe Pye. And who was this Timothy who gave his name to the grass with a sweet and chewable stem? Foxtail Grass grows right to the paved surface of roads as does Chicory. Foxtail is a wonderfully descriptive name for this grass. Then there are also those bright yellow flowers; Brown-eyed Susans and wild sunflowers. Susan, Timothy, Bet and Joe Pye; they must have been very special.
