The many rooms in the house, which was the home of Mountainside Market until it moved to Sperryville in the summer of 1995, all have beautiful displays of furniture and antiques. One room upstairs has an extensive collection of old kitchenware; another has delicate ladies’ white gloves, short or elbow length, along with a selection of jewelry. Every little nook can hold a surprise for someone looking for that something special.

Other rooms have twig furniture, quilt tops (ready to stuff and stitch), damask cloths and napkins, pillows, a 19th century American Windsor pine settee, old leather suitcases, a rattan sewing table, lamps, vintage photographs, flower pots, Wedgwood and Coalport china, etc. Mrs. Willis said there is a lot of turnover in the Center and that there are new items coming in every day.

If someone is looking for something in particular, Mrs. Willis said they will keep a lookout for that item.

In the store last Thursday, Stewart Willis said that sales have been really good since the store opened in the beginning of September. “Last week there was a big spurt on china,” he said, adding that a lot of people happened to be visiting from the west coast and the Center shipped a lot of china to the west coast.

Mary Ann Kuhn of the Middleton Inn shopped last Thursday and was delighted to find a silver tray with creamer and sugar bowl and two silver goblets from the Westminster Dog Show to use in her bed and breakfast business.

Mrs. Willis said that she is looking for someone to take over the smali greenhouse which is attached to one of the downstairs rooms, someone who wants to sell plants, seasonal wreaths, and fresh flowers.
