Voters were also asked about issues: "Fighting crime and violence in our schools" was important to RCHS voters as was balancing the federal budget and universal government provided health insurance.

Students ,and staff voted by district. President Clinton and senate candidate Mark Warner carried Hampton and Stonewall-Hawthom districts and the precinct labeled "other” for those students and staff who come to school from outside Rappahannock County. Former Sen. Bob Dole and Sen. John Warner carried Piedmont, Jackson and Wakefield districts.

The RCHS mock election was part of a nationwide high school mock election sponsored by Tune and CNN News. In Virginia the VCU Virginia Institute for Law and Citizenship organized the vote which was carried live on CNN.

Government teacher Jeanne Grimes said that that institute sent lots of materials to help with the election and has provided a wealth of material for government classes generally.
