Marshall Burke, who owns land on both sides of the road, said he would be happy with the improvement "just so it's wide enough to pass.”
Charles Johnson said he agreed some of the old trees should remain but the canopy is like a tunnel and "has a tendency to create ice. It doesn't get sunshine."
Included in the current plan is work on Long Mountain Road. Hampton District representative Mike Massie noted that $450,000 is scheduled to be spent there.
Mr. Moore said work is scheduled for next summer. He said VDOT will be finding out over the winter how much right of way will be donated. "If we're not able to get the right of way, we may look at the steep grades for spot improvements," he said.
