IJallee Morgan said she wanted "to caution against overimproving roads.” She said the northern end of Route 729 has "been improved to an average speed of 55 miles per hour."
Bemie Fisken noted that RLEP has asked the supervisors to consider the county's secondary roads as natural resources. He said because they are "curvy and narrow" they have a natural "traffic calming effect. Cars can't go so fast." He said VDOT looks at secondary roads from "two extremes. Either leave it alone or make it straight and wide." He said VDOT and the supervisors should try to find a position between the extremes.
Mr. Moore said when VDOT receives a request for road improvements ”we go to our standards" for pavement width, shoulders and ditches.
