Milton Thacker, assistant resident engineer in the Warrenton office, said VDOT would not take on any improvements to that road without cooperation from Madison County.
Marilyn Armor asked what would happen if Madison County lacked the money to have work done on the road. She said the road and the Hughes River "are becoming the same."
Mr. Thacker explained that all the funds are actually state funds and the two counties can work together.
James Russell asked for help on a portion of Route 600 between routes 601 and 667 that skirts an old quarry. He said over the years erosion has made the roadway "extremely narrow. To me it's very hazardous. If two vehicles meet, one must back up." He said he is willing to donate a 10-foot wide strip of land so the road can be widened there. _■
Mr. Moore said that is a request which can be added to the plan. Normally new requests go to the bottom of the list, but if the situation is life threatening it can be moved up.
Several people spoke about planned improvements to Route 620 at Five Forks.
Hal Creel said he was "strongly opposed to paving and widening the road" but he knew most of his neighbors favored it and the needed right of way was available. He said he hoped VDOT would keep some of the old trees but remove trees that are dead and dropping their branches on passing cars. He said he hoped VDOT would keep "the
