Portions of the Skyline Drive will be closed at night during hunting season, Park Superintendent J.W. Wade announced on Monday.
He noted that this is the 18th year that this closure has been undertaken and that it reduces illegal hunting activity within the Park, a sanctuary for wildlife, during the commonwealth's hunting season outside the park.
From November 10, 1996, through January 5, 1997, the northern and southern sections of the Skyline Drive will be closed daily between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. That includes the section between Front Royal (Mile 0 at l).S. 340) and Thornton Gap (Mile 31 at U.S. 211) and the section between Swift Run Gap (Mile 65 at U.S. 33) and Rockfish Gap (Mile 105 at U.S. 250). The central portion of the Skyline Drive, between Thornton Gap and Swift Run Gap, will remain open
