The SperryviUe Gateway Committee at their meeting on Thursday wrote a preliminary mission statement that will help them plan for growth in a way they want it — to make SperryviUe a place where the quality of life is valued, protected and nurtured.
According to visionary author and land use planner Ed McMahon, who spoke at the May meeting, writing a mission statement is the first step a community takes to save itself from the unplanned, ugly sprawl that threatens to engulf the rural landscape.
A mission statement will guide the residents in SperryviUe as they make decisions about their future and is a necessity when applying for grants.
Judy Cornwell, a professional facilitator, led the group of approximately 30 in an active discussion for two hours. This was the second of the three meetings she is conducting.
