In the case of Richard Allen Bottomley it was a different story. Defense attorney Cindy Decker painted a clear picture of abuse and intimidation of Richard by his brother Rodger. Her client also has a history of depression and has been under counseling by Prince William County Mental Health. The defendant also told a convincing story under oath in his own defense.
The judge sentenced Richard Allen Bottomley to one year on each charge, to run consecutively, and suspended the entire sentence and imposed two years supervised probation. He directed the defendant to stay on his medication, continue counseling, to have an evaluation for substance abuse, and to continue to work as he is able.
