TIME AND HEALING

Cicero made the observation that "No grief is so acute but that time ameliorates it." Now, new research indicates there may be other factors that have a more direct impact on emotional healing than time. In a study of 74 people who had experienced the loss of a loved one, no correlation was found between the amount of time that had passed and a person's grief. This seems to suggest that the grieving process is not so much a passive endeavor that will take care of itself over time as much as it may require an engaging attitude. Different personality traits make some mourners more adaptive than others. Those who are having trouble accepting a loss are encouraged to seek help.
