A final snapshot of county procedures: in late July I received ip the mail a document entitled: “A Resolution by the Planning Commission of Rappahannock County, Virginia, Proposing Amendments to the Zoning Chapter of the Rappahannock County Code.” This document announces the September and October dates of the public hearings on the family apartment amendments.
The last paragraph reads: “Passed by a majority vote of the Planning Commission of Rappahannock County at a regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, August 19, 1998 by the following vote: “All seven members are listed but without a vote indicated. This clairvoyant document, prepared three weeks before the August 19 meeting, purports to know which members will attend and that a majority will pass the resolution. (I wonder who will vote no?)
We need to discuss family apartments and mobile homes. We need to consider the hardships we are imposing on many of our residents. More than these two needs, however, we need to shine a constant brilliant light upon the procedures and doings of our county government at every level.
