Predictions on school costs
and resulting tax rate vary
The public hearing on the bond issue comes up
Monday, Oct. 5. The board of supervisors will
determine whether to approve the request by the school board to issue $3 million worth of school bonds for the high school expansion and other capital improvements.
That would translate to about a 5.3 cent increase in the real estate tax rate, with a $305,000 debt service (in the first year) and, although we won’t know exactly until the bonds are sold in November, they expect an average percentage rate of about 4.5. If other funding is found, cuts are made in the school budget or other areas of the county budget, then the increase on the tax rate would accordinelv be lower.
