What about the beginning of this saga? What about that highway stabbing through the town? Jay Katzen, Rappahannock’s delegate in Richmond, stopped by on festival day and assured Light that the speed limit will be dropped to 35 within Woodville.
Light doesn’t envision Woodville sponsoring another county-wide celebration in the next few years. Instead he hopes that other Rappahannock communities — such as Chester Gap, Slate Mills, or Flint Hill — will pick up the idea and make such a celebration a way of rallying their own communities and of forging a link to others in the county.
“Woodville used to have its share of enemies and spats, but if war brings a country together, this kind of celebration brings a community together,” says Light.
“Now we talk and meet together. We are revitalized.”
