Hunters for the Hungry, a nonprofit organization which donates venison to needy families and the homeless in Virginia. I have been advised that the organization is in desperate need of monetary donations to help offset the costs of processing the meat being received. If you are able to contribute, please send a check or money order payable to Hunters for the Hungry, P.O. Box 304, Big Island, Va. 24526. Please don’t forget to leave your nonperishable foods, school supplies, new hats and mittens, and new toys in the lobby at the Rappahannock County Elementary School from now until Dec. 14 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. each day. Donated items will be given to needy families in the community whose names remain anonymous.
The school works with Social Services, the Sheriff’s Department and area churches to ensure no deserving family is overlooked. Please send only new items and no perishables. Volunteers are being sought on our end of the county to work with the Parks and Recreation Department on projects planned for the new South Wales Outdoor Community Recreation Center and Park on Rt. 621. Call Earl Teribury at 727-3412 if your are interested in helping.
