Chief Deputy Chris Williams will serve as sheriff until the circuit court judges appoint a sheriff. Judge Shore Robertson, who normally sits here, is the senior judge and would make the decision in the event a majority decision could not be reached by the judges. It is difficult to get all four judges together at the same time due to their busy schedules so the interviewing process may be limited to a few qualified applicants and just when the decision will be made is not known at this time.
The appointed sheriff will serve until Dec. 31, 1999. The general election in November 1999 will determine who will be elected sheriff for a regular term.
