Recently Cadette Girl scout Troop No. 393 went on an excursion to Luray Caverns. Many of the girls met at the Episcopal Church yard, others were picked along the way. The troop was driven by Mrs. Edward Brown, Mrs. A.Y. Stokes and Mrs. C.J. Raney. After going through the beautiful caverns, a journey of 1 1/4 miles afoot, the troop had fried chicken at the Cavern and Coach restaurant and later went through the Old Car House. All Christmas cards require a 6-cent stamp even if they are not sealed. Letters are 6-cents an ounce and all greeting cards are 6-cents for the first 2 ounces, unsealed.

The Town of Washington has a new mayor, and you guessed it, the mayor is a woman. Virginia Miller was elected to the post at the November meeting of the town council. Mrs. Christine Johnston was, a council member for many years, was named treasurer to succeed Mrs. Miller. The election came about following the resignation of former mayor Andrew Kozik who moved to Sperryville creating a vacancy.
