Ronnie Dodson moved up from road deputy to chief jailer and promoted to captain when Capt. Mitch Hitt left. Although he misses being on the road he says he’s happy with his decision to accept the position and everything is running smoothly.
“We probably will make some changes later on but for now things are going well and the state mandates most of the policies.”
Don Dietrich also received a promotion from sergeant to lieutenant in the jail and although his duties are pretty much the same he and Dodson, along with their new personnel, are running a well-oiled machine.
Gary Jenkins, of Washington, began as a jailer with the sheriff’s office in September. He has been busytraining at the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy and just recently returned from his training there. “I was always interested in law enforcement,” he said, “and I felt it was time to do it. Once I’ve learned everything I need to know for the jailer’s job I'd like to try the road out."
