The Rappahannock County Library Board of Trustees approved, without dissent, a budget of approximately $110,000 for FY 2000.
The draft budget for library operations was changed only to reflect additional state aid, and to adjust upward, to five per cent, the salary increase proposed for Library Director David Shaffer.
The new budget represents an increase of slightly more than 10 percent above last year’s budget, and reflects Increases of nearly 20 percent in revenue from state aid and endowment income, and three percent from the county appropriation.
The largest increases in expenditures are for salaries and wages, and for the acquisition of books and subscriptions.
Finance committee chair John Hartline initiated discussions on the disposition and use of funds generated by the bequest of $75,000 to the library from an estate in memory of Mrs. Hill Carter Lucas, sister of the late Mrs. Louemma Moffett of Washington.
This bequest is to be used exclusively “for the purchase of children’s books and/or children’s visual aids.”
The board moved and approved the purchase of a five year, five percent certificate of deposit with the $37,000 received from the estate thus far.
