Something is happening at Goat Hill Farm. Once your typical farm in a pastoral setting, greenhouses are being built—big ones. And even though the owner John Bums is scaling down production from wholesale to strictly retail, the look is definitely one of expansion.
Bums has lived a life centered around agriculture. His father was a forester for the Food and Agricultural Organization of the U. N. His father’s position required the Bums to live overseas, with frequent moves. But Burns loved it. ! Bums came back to the U.S. to go to school. He majored in AfricanAnthropology at the Michigan State. Then, Burns volunteered for the Peace Corps in their agricultural division. He Worked on a coffee and cocoa project in Togo, West Africa for 30 months. Sounds like roughing it, but Bums said, “I loved it! It was great!”
Bums came back to the U.S. to get another degree in TVopical Agriculture at Rutgers in New Jersey. At this point his long-term goal was to
