John Carlyle Herbert Hooff, 80, of Alexandria died of congestive heart failure. Born' May 19, 1918 in Baltimore, Md. he was from an Alexandria family and livedthere for most his life. ,W

Mr. Hooff attended. Episcopal High School in Alexandria. He graduated from the University . of Virginia in 1941. = "

After graduating from. UVA, he served in the Army Aircorps as a navigator during World War II in the North. African, European and Pacific theaters. When returning to* civilian life after World War II, he entered the real estate and development business in. Alexandria as Executive Vice’. President of Charles R. HooffInc., and president of Hooff and Neill Builders.

He was a developer • of Yates View and Camerofr Mews in Old Town Alexandria and Indian Bluff Island,' Tarpon Springs, Fla. * -

Mr. Hooff was on the vestr^ and treasurer of the Emmanuel Church on the Hill, founding' member and President of the Alexandria Businessmen^ Club, on the Board of Director# of City Bank and Trust, a mem-, ber of the Alexandria Chamber' of Commerce, Chairman of theAlexandria Board of Thfc' Equalization, a member of th6' International Association of Assessing Officers and LionsClub member in Clearwater: 5 Fla. Jr

Mr. Hooff retired to Sperryville in 1978 where W' was active in assisting in the building of a new library <inWashington, as Chairman of the Friends of the Library. He’ was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. > !

He is survived by his wife', > Dorothy Cole Hooff; two sons, John C.H. Hooff Jr. and Eugene Prince Hooff; twcr daughters, Evelyn HooffCrickenbergber and Carlyle Fairfax Herbert Hooff; tvwt stepsons, John Marshall Jr. and Robert Marshall and 11 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held, April 1 at Trinity Episcopal Church ih! Washington at 1 p.m.
