Science teaches that God knows nothing of human troubles, illness, or sorrow. Imagine a “close relationship” that would not recognize when we are hurt, or in trouble, and you will have some sense of where Christian Science can leave you when hard times come. In fact, the denominational textbook advises parents to respond to a child in much that same way, telling a mother to say to her child, who has fallen, “you’re not hurt, so don’t think you are.”
