slide. This also had runners and they were made from four-inch hickory poles. Once they had been used many times, the poles became flat and it would really slide, hence the name "slide." With a couple of inches or more of snow you felt as though you were flying. Specially when the horse would trot.
Our horse was "Old Nell" and she was really a work horse, but ready to take us on a joy ride any time she was not needed for work.
