The night of the recent ice storm Rosie and Walter Day were returning to Flint Hill from Front Royal in their Mercury. At the bottom of the mountain on the Flint Hill side, as Mr. Day recalls, the rear end of the vehicle decided to replace the front end without his permission.
The result was dramatic, at least to the Days. The auto ended in a ditch tilted on the driver's side. Walter Day says that he thought they were finished although the air bags and seat belts had saved them from injury, the car quickly filled with smoke and he was in fear that fire was soon to come.
