John Marshall Alther, 79, of Culpeper died on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at his residence.
He was bom Jan. 16, 1921 in Rappahannock County, a son of the late Burkett Henry Alther and Josephine Cloud Alther.
He retired from Rochester Corporation after 34 years of service.
He was a member of Culpeper United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Brown Alther of Culpeper; one daughter, Dale Perry and her husband Richard of Culpeper; two sons, John M. Alther Jr. and his wife Sue of Mechanicsville and Mark A. Alther and his fiance’ Sissy of Culpeper; one brother Thomas Alther of Catalpa; one sister Elizabeth Ippolito of Chicago, 111. and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Dec. 22 at Clore-English Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Donnelly officiating.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.
