The two Lindas, Orfila and Heimstra, are now working a new gig—they're both vocalizing with a Winchester jazz band, The Shenandoah Sheiks. The Sheiks not only showcase two of Rappahannock's best, but also reportedly perform often for the benefit of cancer research.
Julie Coon worked around the scene for awhile, and then joined Bill Abernathy, Vincent Day, and Linda Heimstra in some one-night bands, finally settling down for a bit as the Modern Tribal Orchestra. Julie went on to team with Vincent Day as Venus Jones and to record "Somebody Like You" with Smiggy Smithy, drummer James Vaughn and guitarist Andy McManus.
Julie's now back in action, having joined with Scott Muthersbaugh, John Whissel, Chris Moyles, and Bill Pooton in the new band, Whut?. Whut? will debut Saturday, Dec. 30 at the Blue Moon Cafe in Sperryville.
Warren Phinney came back to the County after playing clubs and streets in Germany and San Francisco. His returned was occasioned by the grant of some bucks toward development and recording of his unique plugged-in Celtic folk project "Some Dark Holler" with violinist Lucy Turner. This work in progress stands alone and is bound to turn a few heads once complete.
Paul Reisler's work writing songs with County school children this past year has led to an all-County event: with the assistance of Steve Van Dam of Everything and Smiggy Smith, local musicians will be recruited to record eighteen of these songs. The resulting
