On Tuesday, June 12 Democrats all over the Commonwealth of Virginia will be going to the polls to elect their candidates for Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General. Last week’s article focussed on the three candidates for Lieutenant Governor: Alan Diamonstein, Jerrauld Jones, and Tim Kaine.
The four candidates seeking the Attorney General nomination aVe Delegate Whitt Clement, Attorney Sylvia Clute, Senator John Edwards, and Delegate Donald McEachin.
Whitt Clement of Danville is a 14-year member of the House of Delegates, a former President of the Virginia Bar Association and front-runner in the fund-raising campaign. He was named a “hero” by the Virginia League of Conservation Voters for preserving Virginia’s environment.
If elected Attorney General, Clement would enforce Roe v. Wade, would work to make schools safer with funds for alternative education programs, enforce environmental laws to clean up rivers and would beef up consumer protection of elderly and disabled citizens. He did not support a bill calling for a moratorium on the death penalty, and generally takes a dim view of gun control measures.

Sylvia Clute is a Richmond trial lawyer who decided to run for attorney general because all the tough-on-crime campaign promises don’t address the root issues of crime.
