Peplowski has been a featured performer with the American Jazz Orchestra, performed regularly in New York’s major clubs, and appeared at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. He spends milch of his time traveling the world as a solo artist or as a leader of his own quintet. Besides jazz classics, Peplowski has embraced the works of 20th Century classical composers Witold Lutolawski (“Dance Preludes”) and Darius Milhaud (“Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra,” a piece that Benny Goodman commissioned in 1941 but never recorded).
Howard Alden has been described by New York Post critic Chip Deffaa as “one of the very finest young guitarists working today.” Alden teamed up with fellow guitarists Jimmy Bruno and Frank Vignola to record a three guitar CD for the Concord Jazz label. (Jimmy and Frank have also played at the Theatre in Little Washington t> Frank’s next performance there will be in September.)
Alden has been a Concord Jazz recording artist since the late ‘80s. His prolific output on the that label has captured an artist of consistently great virtuosity and originality. Since 1992 Alden has been playing the seven-string guitar, an instrument which imparts a great range and harmonic richness to the music. Outstanding reviews of Alden’s performances have appeared in publications throughout the world. These include the Los Angeles Times: “every guitar solo bespoke imagination coupled with originality”; Gramaphone: “always dazzles with his good taste and virtuoso technique”; The New Yorker: “utter assurance . . . crystalline sound, each note articulate and complete”; The Daily Telegraph (London): “a deft virtuoso . . . producing such fleet, seamless improvisations.”
