John Edwards is a twoterm State Senator from Southwest Virginia and a former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia. At the end of his term as U.S. Attorney, The Roanoke Times reported that he had one of the “perhaps most successful tenures of any federal prosecutor in recent years."
Edwards is the only candidate seeking the Democratic nomination with experience as a prosecutor, and also the only candidate with experience as a local government official, having served as Vice Mayor of Roanoke City prior to his election to the State Senate.
