Mr. Lester L. Yates of Sperryville retied Monday, July 31 after serving 34 years as rural mail carrier of the United States Post Office in Washington. M1-- Yates is a native of Rappahannock, bom and reared in the F.T. Valley next door to where he now lives. On Aug. 2, 1927 Mr. Yates began carrying the mail on an 18.1 mile route which was later extended to cover 36 miles daily. When asked what he would do to occupy his time Mr. Yates replied that he had plenty of bushes ' on his 100 acre farm that needed grubbing and it will soon be com cutting time also.
Effective Aug. 21 hair cuts are going up at Watt’s Barber Shop in Washington. Hair cuts over 12 will be $1; under 12 will be 75 cents and flat tops will be $1.25. Same price changes effective also for Flint Hill and Sperryville Barber Shops.
An attractive five-room bungalow on large lot with garden in a good section of Sperryville was advertised by WA Miller of Washington for only $5,000.
