Washington Mayor Newbill Miller has requested that town residents curtail water use to essentials only. Town water levels are down and residents are asked to refrain from washing cars or watering lawns and gardens until further notice.

Town Treasurer Brad Fisher presented the Washington Town Council with a proposed $113,900 budget last Wednesday, up nearly ten percent from the current budget. To finance the budget, Mr. Fisher proposed that the meals and lodging tax be increased from 2.5 percent to 3 percent. He estimated this would bring in $14,000 to $16,000 in additional revenue.
“Washington, Va.,” a large oil by the Windflower Gallery, Tanya Richey, won the third award in her division in the Neighborhood Art Show in The Plains last week. Laurie Marshall won a first place. Others from Rappahannock entering included David Clanagan, Nol Putnam and Helen Bridges.
The Hume mansion of Rick and Lindy Hart was the setting for a second Ki Theatre arts benefit on Sunday.
