If there is one elf that has been working overtime in pulling this year’s Christmas celebration together in the Town of Washington, it is town resident Claudia Mitchell who has been enthusiastically planning the three-day event since July.
The “Christmas in Little Washington” celebration is scheduled for the entire weekend of Dec. 6-8. It is sponsored by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and Community, as it has been for the past three years.
“I just love the Christmas celebration here,” said Ms. Mitchell, chairperson of the event, in a recent interview. “It is the one thing I know of that brings all the people from our county here. And groups like the Colonial Dancers and actors in the Shepherds’ Pla> have been practicing for two to three months. People are making new friends, long lasting friends.
“I think the town is just charming and this Christmas celebration seems a natural fit.”
A larger than usual turnout for the holiday festivities is anticipated this year because of the variety of events scheduled and the participation of additional groups.
The town will be decked out in its Christmas finery while town criers from the 4-H Pony Club ride through village streets spreading Christmas cheer along with a group of costumed merrymakers from the newly formed Rainbow Bridge Rappahannock Youth Theatre.
