Although slightly chewy, the octopus was tasty, until the red pepper sauce kicked in! Yikes! Krystel Linge, who lives with the Lukes in Washington, Va., brought in yummy banana-pumpkin pudding.
The Mehtas from Luray brought in a vegetable dish from India, as well as saffron rice and what looked like very spicy chili.
Whitney Matthews brought in a killer homemade milk chocolate sauce, and the Langenbergs brought in apple fritters from the Netherlands.
Bi Luong brought in the most beautiful sapphire blue gown from Vietnam that I've ever seen.
Even Mrs. Emma Sue Amos got into the spirit, as she lent Maria Herraiz of Spain a piece of Spanish artwork that Mrs. Amos has owned for many years.
Artwork, jewelry, books, clothing, etc. made for an intensely interesting day. The Prep school students divided into teams for the World Cup Soccer Games, even though the mother in me came out and said, "But the grass is wet"!
Don t worry, soccer coaches. No one listened to me! Thank you to everyone who became part of this fun week!
• Students and staff at WCDS were saddened to learn that over the weekend Mr. John McMahon, our Latin and Greek teacher, lost his father to cancer.
The elder Mr. McMahon had been in failing health for some time.
Our heartfelt prayers go out to John and his wife Mary, this week, as they travel home to be with John's mother.
• Middle-school girls and boys played hard games back-to-back last week against Cornerstone Christian, losing both games narrowly.
These are WCDS teams that have come a long way, and we are very proud of their hard work.
Great teamwork and terrific lay-ups were made by several of the young Lady Owls, but I'd like to congratulate Lydia Miller, the youngest Owl for her tenacious performance during last week's game. Go, Lydia!
• Varsity Girls and Boys traveled to Woodstock to play against MMA. Although freezing, both teams overcame their goose bumps to win their games.
