The beer is sold at the brewery, on Baldo’s Web site and at a few locations in the area.
“Basically I ship the beer to a couple of places in Northern Virginia,” Stewart said, “but sooner or later it’s on my list to send it to Australia. But my list gets longer and longer, and I go slower and slower.”
Bardo’s promotional literature stated that the brewery’s Pullman Porter was a bronze medal winner in the 2000 Australian International Beer Awards, and Stewart once lived and worked Down Under.
Stewart opened the brewery originally in Arlington before moving to Rappahannock a decade ago.
“It’s a mess trying to make beer in the city,” he explained. “It’s just easier out here, plus we’ve got the tasting room.”
Vineyards have tasting rooms for their wines, Stewart said. He has a tasting room for his beer.
Help wanted
“When I started, I had about six different brewers around the country help me with the recipes,” Stewart explained. “They gave me from one to five recipes each, and the beers have different styles. We sell them in one-and twoliter bottles, and we give out samples when people show up. We’re the only brewery in this area. There is another one in Dulles and one in Charlottesville. ”
