Thursday night to begin his 14 month sentence.
Upon release from prison, Mr. Claffy will be on four years of supervised probation with the condition that he perform 100 hours of community service and undergo any substance abuse testing and treatment as deemed necessary by his probation officer.
Mr. Claffy’s driver’s license was indefinitely revoked.
He can not reapply for one for 10 years. He also has to attend and complete the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program course for persons convicted of drunk driving.
The sentencing stems from a fatal collision that occurred last Dec. 21 when Mr. Claffy’s red Ford F250 pickup truck crossed over to the other side of the road (Route 659) and struck Mr. Foster head on at a crest in the road.
Mr. Foster, who was driving his silver Toyota pickup, died at the scene.
Mr. Foster had just left his parents’ home on Dearing Road and was on his way to cash his paycheck at the Flint Hill bank before he went Christmas shopping with his son and fiance, Stephanie.
