The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC) brings in the New Year with a variety of movie selections chosen to meet the wide range of interests in the community.
The following movies are scheduled to show at The Theatre on Gay Street in Washington at 8 p.m., on the first and third Fridays of each month:
Jan 3: “Sweet Home Alabama” (PG-13, 109 minutes) Romantic comedy stars Reese Witherspoon (Melanie) as a New York fashion designer just engaged to wealthy and handsome Patrick Dempsey. His mom (Candice Bergen) is mayor of New York who suspects Melanie’s not as classy as she seems. Back to her roots in Alabama, Melanie returns to tell her parents (and an estranged husband she’s yet to divorce). Which one will she choose? Come and see. Witherspoon is charming.
Jan. 17: “Road To Perdition” (R, 119 minutes) Michael Sullivan (Tom Hanks) is a hit man for an Irish gang during the Depression. But when he loses his wife and his son, Sullivan and his surviving son (14-year-old newcomer Tyler Hoechlin) set out on a journey of self-discovery and revenge. Also stars Paul Newman and Jude Law. Newman and Hanks are superb.
Feb. 7: “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” (PG, 95 minutes) Set in Chicago, Toula Portokalos (Nia Vardalos) an unmarried woman forced by her parents to find a man,
