Curious about those little stickers you’ve seen with the initials “ECOW” on them?
No, it’s not some trendy new beach resort. It’s a tongue-in-cheek reference to Epicurious Cow, a gourmet food shop in Amissville.
Shop owners Terri Lehman and John Oravec both have long histories working with food.
“I was the buyer for Sutton Place Gourmet for 12 years,” Lehman said.
“I’ve worked at a lot of D.C. restaurants, and I spent three years at Sutton Place,” Oravec added.
The store, which sits on the edge of a cattle farm, used to be a combination gas station and country store. Now it reflects their interests. The place is stocked with organic food of all kinds as well as wines, sauces, and meats that shoppers don’t encounter that often.
“We do organic from April through November,” Lehman said. “We sell organic food when the organic food is in season.”
There are packages of bacon made from duck, cheeses from all over the world, and organic meats to fill any larder. It’s apparent that the partners love what they do.
