History of the Piedmont
The rich history of the Piedmont region will be the focus of an upcoming lecture series on successive Thursdays April 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 at Germanna Community College's Locust Grove campus. The lectures which are free, will run from 7-8:30 p.m. in Room 114 of the Locust Grove campus. On April 1, Rappahannock’s Rob Sherwood, professor of English at the college and a local history enthusiast, offers a Virtual Tour (by PowerPoint Presentation) of the 15 most important historic sites at Locust Grove campus and its vicinity, with pictures and a discussion of the historicalbackground of each one.
1Dietary Wisdom ’ lecture
In an effort to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices for better health, Ruckers Farm is sponsoring a lecture on "Dietary Wisdom" Thursday, April 1 at the Rappahannock County Library at 7 p.m. Cathy O'Brien, a nutritionist with the Weston Price Foundation (an organization nationally known for its research in nutrient-rich, farm-based foods) will discuss Dr. Weston's research that nutrient-dense whole foods, supplemented by vital fat-soluble activators found exclusively in animal fats, are critical to optimum human health.
Art show opening
The Middle Street Gallery in Washington announces a show of new works by area artist Janet Brome: "Exploring the Landscape East and West.” The artworks in this show highlight the contrasts between the forms, textures and colors of the land in the arid West and those of the lush Shenandoah Valley. The show runs from April 2 through April 25 with an opening reception on Sunday, April 4 from 2 to 6 p.m. Gallery hours are Friday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 6752355 for more information.
