Members of the Washington Town Council have voted to retain a Lynchburg engineering firm to conduct soil sampling on 51 acres of land off Harris Hollow Road in preparation for building a wastewater drain field.
The $1,500 initial contract with WW Associates of Lynchburg will be followed by a $15,000 contract to design the water drainage system if the soil is found to be able to absorb 35,000 to 50,000 gallons a day of wastewater.
The council voted 5 to 0 to award the contract on March 10 with member Claudia Mitchell abstaining. Mitchell said she didn’t have enough information to make a decision.
