The Rappahannock County High School auditorium was standing room only for proud parents and students last Wednesday night for the seventh annual Academic Awards Reception.
More than 90 students, grades 8 through 12, received awards for academic excellence from their teachers. The awards went not only to those with high grade point averages, but also to students who have demonstrated a willingness to give their all as they work toward academic excellence. Headwaters, the Rappahannock County Public Education Foundation, organizes and funds the event each year.
The first two awards wore presented by Headwaters chair Man Anne Biggs. Sydney Moineau received the Jeff MacNelly Art award, which is a cash award for artisticachievement. Erica Hilscher received the John Sawhill Con servation award, which is also a cash award for a student who exhibits a consistent concern for the environment. Christina Norwood received the Community Sendee award, which was given this year in honor of Sally Havstad and her countless volunteer hours given to f help so many in our community. Headwaters board member Helen Williams presented this award.
