Lucking attended the Fifth Annual Mentoring Conference in San Francisco April 19 that brought forth new ideas to expand the Starfish program. As Starfish continues to grow, there is a .continuing need for more enthusiastic adults who enjoy spending time with children to become involved with mentoring. Already the number of pairs increased from 19 to 29 in just the past year.
“Mentoring is a wonderful way for a youth to feel special and allows another adult who is not a parent into their fives to bounce off ideas. As adolescents go through ‘firiding themselves,’ statistics show that it is not their parents that they will most likely be confiding in,” said Lucking.
