Over the next eight and half years,. Dad had multiple strokes. He worked hard to graduate from his wheelchair to a lawn tractor. He changed his work from mental health to the computer lab at the high school, from doing counseling to doing mentoring.

Dad felt very positive about the time he spent at Rappahannock County High School. I do not know what the students got out of it, but 1 do know what Dad got out of it. He continued to feel useful through the things that he tried to pass on to students. Dad had great hopes for the students he worked with here. He continued to feel involved. He also felt alive by working in the garden, by sharing his plants and his flowers. He felt at home by surrounding himself with the flowers and sunsets and mountains and people and friends. Those are the things that got him up in the morning and in good spirits.

The best way to commemorate Dad’s life would be to restore the agricultural curriculum at the high school level. Education in agriculture suffered with the closing of the Piedmont Technical and
