Susan Jones serves as chairperson, with Helen Williams ready to take over in the fall. Also on the committee are Lois Manookian, Mary O'Meara, Ellen Adams, Bette Mahoney and Patty Metcalf.
Three new executive committee members are involved in the on-going task of supervising the 29 pairs of mentors and the children with whom they are matched. Linda Dietel. Joyce Abell and Ellen Mustoe joined Starfish last month.
Dietel brings her experience of serving as a volunteer board member with organizations that have included Headwaters, Child Care & Learning Center and Lord Fairfax Community College. She is a grandmother to 11 young people ranging in age from 18 months to 23 years.
Mustoe recently retired from the Juvenile Justice System as a Probation Officer and will shift her energies, through Starfish, to support the community’s efforts to redirect children to more constructive activities other than the court system.
Mrs. Abell is widely known as a thespian through her work on the board of Ki Theater. She is also a retired educator and has her Masters of Social Work.
This year Starfish began hosting group events for the mentors and mentees to enjoy games, activities and potluck picnics together. The first gathering was a Thanksgiving event last fall at Mt. Vernon Farm
