As with many local churches, the tsunami victims have been remembered in prayers and moments of silence in recent services at the Flint Hill Methodist Church. Collections earmarked for the church’s relief effort in South Asia will be made through the United Methodist Charitable Organization where missions are already established with local connections.

One final note: The president on January 7 signed new legislation that will give Americans an even greater incentive to give cash donations during the current month.
The bill — H R. 241 — approved by unanimous consent in both houses of Congress, will allow taxpayers to claim a tax deduction in tax year 2004 for donations made before January 31, 2005, for tsunami disaster relief.
Under current law, donors would be unable to claim a deduction for tsunami-related donations made in January 2005 until 2006. ,
