Little League Baseball
and Softball Registration Registration for Culpeper and Rappahannock Little League baseball and softball will be held at the Culpeper County High School cafeteria entrance from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 15 and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19. You can also register at Rappahannock High School from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, January 15. Players must turn five before Aug.1 and cannot turn 19 before Aug. 1. Players must meet residency requirements which are: • Resident of Culpeper or Rappahannock, or • Played in the league last year because of being a past resident of Culpeper or Rappahannock, or • Has sibling(s) that played in the league last year. Please bring birth certificate, medical insurance information and proof of residency. Cost of registration fee will be $50.
Growing old... or not Dr. Joan Hazzan Vemikos, PhD. will talk about her new book, “The G-Connection: Harness Gravity and Reverse Aging”, at the Rappahannock Library, 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 14. Admission is free. Sponsored by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC) as part of the Second Friday at the Library Series.
King celebration Jan. 16 Everyone is invited to the 14th Annual Rev. Or. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration in Rappahannock to be held at The Theatre on Gay Street at 4 p.m., Sunday, January 16. The program features essays from students in fifth through twelfth grades, music by local artists and guest speaker Larry Rogers, mayor of Harrisonburg, Va. Rogers is a graduate of James Madison University, an entrepreneur and the first African American to be elected mayor. The program is sponsored each year by the Julia E. Boddie Scholarship Committee as a fund-raiser for scholarships to be awarded to Rappahannock County High School graduates. There is no entrance fee, however, a free will offering will be taken.
