Medical emergencies

Whether you are retired or working, your skills are needed to assist Culpeper, Fauquier,.Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties in their response to medical emergencies such as bioterrorism incidents, large communicable disease outbreaks and natural disasters.

Can you spare two to three hours per year for training and attend a drill once a year? If so, reserve your place now for the training from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan.18 with the Orange County Rescue. If you are interested and cannot attend this training session, additional sessions are each month in a different county.

Bible Study

There will be a bible study taught at the Rappahannock Library starting at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 18 and running for nine weeks. For information and to register, call Pat Alward at (540) 675-2568 or (703) 754-7047.

Rappahannock Free Clinic

The Rappahannock Free Clinic will be open Wednesday, Jan. 19 at the Rappahannock Health Department in Washington.

Friday Night at the Flicks

“Open Range” (PG-13) will be shown at 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 21 at The Theatre on Gay street. The film is sponsored by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community.

Center for Civil War History.

An inaugural luncheon will be held at Rappahannock County High School at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22 celebrating the creation of the Center for Civil War History created by Lord Fairfax Community College.

A lecture entitled “Southern Women: What They Meant to the Confederacy” will be given by director Jonathan A. Noyalas followed by a question and answer period.

Cost for the luncheon/lecture is $20. Pre-registration is required.

Piedmont Regional Orchestra

The Piedmont Regional Orchestra will present “PROToons” a concert for children, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, at The Highland Center for the Arts, located in Warrenton.

The concert will showcase how cartoon music is rooted in classical music through an hour performance with an intermission.

Under the musical direction of Michael Hughes, the orchestra will perform pieces by Richard Wagner and Rossini, including The Flying Dutchman Overture, the Tannhauser Overture, examples from other Wagner operas and Rossini's The Barber of Seville.

These pieces were featured in many classic cartoons. During the concert there will be a few surprises that both children and adults alike will enjoy. Using live music and the state of .the art audio visual capabilities of the Rice Theater, the audience will experience the full range of great music used in an unusual and fun way.

At the end of the concert, students will be invited to meet orchestra members, examine their instruments, and ask questions.

Tickets are available at g.whillikers in Warrenton. Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors, 65 and older.

Students 21 and under attend FREE with a ticket. Season’s subscriptions are still available: adults are $40 and seniors are $25. For additional information call 540-270-3168.
