.The Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company has been awarded a grant by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services in the amount of $90,415.
According to Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue chief Ann Spieker, the money will be used to purchase a new ambulance and heart monitoring equipment.
One stipulation of the grant is that the money must be used within this year.
The new ambulance will be used to replace a 1989 ambulance that is currently being used by the company and is inadequate for advanced life care during the 30 minute hospital transport times required from Rappahannock County.
