He had been farming in Rappahannock County since 1948 and had been active in the community serving on the Board of Education, and various agricultural positions. The center of Manwaring’s life was his membership in the Later-Day Saints church where he was a Patriarch and served as the first Bishop in the state of Virginia, among other positions.
Mr. Manwaring is survived by four children, Janice M. Burton Lindon, Utah; J. Laurence Manwaring of Warrenton; Virginia Edward J. Manwaring Spanish Fork, Utah; and James Manwaring of Woodville; additional survivors include one sister, Gladys, 18 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Jan. 11 in Arlington, at the the Church of Jesus Christ of LaterDay Saints.
