Driving east on Route 29 out of Warrenton long ago lost its’ flavor as a pleasant drive for those early morning commuters. You’re lucky if you can get through the Gainesville/Haymarket area to Route 66. Many, in fact, prefer to detour on Route 15 to escape that entanglement but may find themselves in another one as the housing developments along Route 15 have skyrocketed adding more congestion.
Driving west on Route 211 out of Warrenton it just gets lonelier and lonelier as the number of cars continues to decrease particularly once you pass tht 229 intersection.
Closer to the Rappahannock border is Culpeper County and the impeding decision on Clevenger’s Corner. Between the water treatment/sewer issues and the additional traffic, some in Rappahannock have expressed that they’d like to pull up the drawbridge to “heaven’s gate.”
It’s a fine balancing act between having the tax base to give your citizens what they need and have a right to expect in terms of infrastructure while protecting a way of life that many do not want to see changed.
Rappahannock County’s past supervisors have perhaps been wiser. They have left a farsighted and insightful agenda for future boards to follow
Preservation was more on their minds.
