“This is an ideal way to connect with local viewers and a great learning tool for the students,” said Tbm Kierein, meteorologist with NBC4.
The weather data is also posted on the Internet and updated every five minutes with theAWS.
The monitoring system is installed on the roof of the high school and operates from a digital display within Gall’s classroom.
Students track real-time weather measurements such as wind speed, wind direction and the highest wind gust of the day.
The system also records weather parameters including temperature, relative humidity, heat index and barometric pressure and records daily, monthly and yearly rain measurements.
“It is great to see the students make the correlation from numbers to what they see outside,” said Gall who commented that with the recent hurricane season being so active, RCHS students were able to learn much about weather currents on the display.
WeatherBug’s Homeland Security is also linked with the National Weather Service network.
This is a Homeland Security initiative. Whenever there is a security incident or a natural disaster, NWS cam tap into the network to speed \information to government agencies and emergency workers.
