By Jeanne Spath Rappahannock News Staff Writer Traveling throughout the county, residents may have seen a new face or two in Virginia State Police cruisers. A new sight to Rappahannock County is that one of those troopers is female, in fact, this is the first female Virginia State Police trooper to patrol this county. Trooper Kerri Corbett hales from Floral Park, just outside New York City, New York, having graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg this past May with her Bachelor’s Degree in psychology. “I really wanted to get out of New York,” Corbett said, “I wanted something quieter.” Corbett, who recently moved to Amissville, received praise from her superior, First-Sargent Gary Settle, “So far she has done a tremendous job. I am very excited that Rappahannock is getting a fine trooper.” Within her first week on this new assignment, Corbett had her first arrest as a trooper, a driving under the influence of alcohol charge. According to her field training officer (FTO), Trooper Don Corbin, that will be one of the major crimes the new trooper will face in Rappahannock County. Corbin said the other crime that concerns him is illegal drug traffic that he sees going through the county. “Those will be the biggest things she will face,” Corbin said, “but this is a rural county, a good county, and the crime rate is low.” Corbin, who has been with Virginia State Police for just over seven years, is looking forward to having more officers to contain See TROOPERS, Page A2
